German officials are reporting that the August 4 attempted drone attack at Leipzig/Halle Airport has been formally attributed to Russia. Authorities say the explosive-laden drone, found near a Ukrainian Antonov cargo plane and packed with Semtex and PETN, failed to detonate but bore the hallmarks of a Russian hybrid operation. A second drone incident at the airport is also under investigation. In response, Berlin announced the closure of Russia's consulate in Bonn and the Russian House in Berlin, along with new restrictions on Russian nationals. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt warned that Germany remains a target of Moscow's hybrid warfare campaign, underscoring growing concern across Europe over Russian sabotage efforts amid the ongoing war in Ukraine.
