Israel's National Cyber Directorate is warning travelers about a cyberattack campaign exploiting public Wi-Fi networks at hotels, airports and other public locations. According to the agency, Microsoft identified attackers using fake pop-up alerts that prompt users to download updates, install software, run commands or enter passwords after connecting to public networks. Officials stress that legitimate Wi-Fi connections should never require installing software. Travelers are urged not to enter passwords or verification codes on suspicious pages, to update devices only through official settings or app stores, and to rely on cellular data for sensitive activity when possible. If a suspicious message appears, the directorate advises closing it immediately and ignoring any instructions it contains.
