Met Museum Holds Emergency Talks Over Galliano Honor

The Metropolitan Museum of Art is set to hold an emergency meeting Sunday amid mounting backlash over its decision to honor fashion designer John Galliano at next year's Met Gala, the New York Post reported. The controversy escalated after New York City Council Speaker Julie Menin publicly called the move a "serious mistake" and urged museum leadership to reconsider. Menin, the Council's first Jewish speaker and the daughter of a Holocaust survivor, said she was especially troubled given Galliano's past antisemitic remarks, which drew widespread condemnation when they surfaced years ago. The Post reports the meeting reflects growing internal concern that honoring Galliano could damage the museum's reputation and alienate donors and patrons who view the decision as tone-deaf to ongoing concerns about rising antisemitism.
