Airwars, a conflict monitor group, is reporting that Lockheed Martin's Precision Strike Missile, touted by its manufacturer as a lethal, long-range, pinpoint weapon, appears to have sprayed pellets over a wide area during what is believed to be its first combat use, on the first day of the Iran war. The findings, based on a review by Airwars along with interviews with weapons experts and former defense officials, raise questions about the risks of deploying the missile near population centers. The U.S. military has invested billions of dollars to field the weapon as part of an effort to modernize its long-range strike arsenal. Airwars says the pattern of dispersal it examined does not match the pinpoint accuracy the missile has been marketed as providing.
