SpaceX announced Tuesday it plans to build a massive $100 billion Starship launch complex in Vermilion Parish near Pecan Island, Louisiana, the company said. Construction is expected to begin in 2027, with the first flight targeted for 2029. Elon Musk said the site could eventually house more than a dozen launch towers, supporting over 30 Starship flights per day. According to the announcement, the self-sustaining facility would include propellant production, power generation, vehicle processing, an airport, and deep-water shipping infrastructure. SpaceX projects the project will create roughly 3,000 direct jobs, with thousands more expected indirectly. The ambitious plan underscores America's continued dominance in commercial spaceflight and signals major economic investment in the Gulf Coast region, cementing Louisiana's emerging role in the private space race.
