Newly verified footage captures the Aug. 26 collapse of Langtang Lirung, the glacier collapse that preceded flooding along the Nepal-Tibet border, according to footage circulated and verified from the scene. In the clip, hikers can be heard reacting to a loud crack moments before a massive wall of ice, rock and debris plunges into the valley below, throwing up a huge cloud of dust. A second clip shows the resulting debris racing rapidly downhill through the valley. The footage offers a rare, close-up look at the scale of the glacial collapse, which triggered flooding in the border region. No casualty figures were included in the material reviewed. Authorities in the area have not yet issued a formal statement on damage or response efforts tied to the event.
