Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy awarded Natan Sharansky, the veteran human rights activist and former Prisoner of Zion, a medal of honor in Kyiv on Thursday, according to the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center. Sharansky received the 3rd class Order of Merit of Ukraine for his contributions to Ukraine and his efforts to preserve the memory of the Holocaust in the country. He has served as chairman of the supervisory board of the Babyn Yar Holocaust Memorial Center, which oversees the site of one of the Holocaust's most notorious massacres, where Nazi forces murdered tens of thousands of Jews in 1941. The honor underscores Sharansky's decades-long legacy as a Soviet dissident and champion of Jewish causes worldwide, work that continues to resonate amid Ukraine's ongoing war with Russia.
